1. Who We Are
Scrap Vala ("we", "our", "us") is a scrap collection and pickup management platform operated by the shop owner. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use the Scrap Vala mobile app ("App") and how it is handled.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account data — email address, display name, and a hashed password when you create a customer account.
- Pickup and scrap sale data — item types, quantities, weights, agreed prices, and transaction history linked to your account.
- Referral data — an anonymous device identifier used to track referral links and rewards.
- Photos — images of scrap items you choose to upload using the device photo library (with your permission).
- Shop usage data — the shop location you are interacting with (required to price and route pickups correctly).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected to:
- Create and manage your customer account.
- Schedule, track, and complete scrap pickup requests.
- Calculate and display your scrap sale balance and history.
- Process referral rewards linked to your account.
- Allow shop admins and carriers to manage pickups and operations.
- Improve the reliability and features of the App.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your account credentials are stored securely on your device using the platform's secure storage (expo-secure-store / iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). Account and transaction data is stored on a hosted backend server. We use HTTPS for all data in transit between the App and the server.
We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data, but no system is completely immune to security risks.
5. Camera and Photo Access
The App requests access to your device's photo library to allow you to upload images of scrap items. You will be prompted to grant this permission; the App does not access your photos without your explicit consent. Photos you upload are transmitted to the server and stored for the purpose of the pickup request.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Your information may be shared with:
- The scrap shop you are transacting with (shop admin and assigned carrier), solely for fulfilling your pickup request.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, under data processing agreements, as required to operate the service.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account and transaction data for as long as your account is active or as required to fulfil the purposes described in this policy. You may request deletion of your account by contacting us (see §10 below). Account data is deleted within 30 days of a verified deletion request.
8. Your Rights (DPDPA & General)
Subject to applicable law (including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal data.
- Request erasure of your personal data.
- Withdraw consent for data processing where consent is the legal basis.

9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 years of age. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
